Experience with Fagan's Inspection Method

چکیده

Fagan’s inspection method was used by a software development group to validate requirements specifications for software functions. The experiences of that group are described in this paper. In general, they have proved to be favorable. Because the costs of fixing errors in software were known, the payback for every hour invested in inspection was shown to be a factor 30. There are also other benefits that are much more difficult to quantify directly but whose effect is significant in terms of the overall quality of the software. Some pointers are given at the end of this paper for those who want to introduce Fagan’s inspection method into their own development environment.

State-of-the-art: software inspections after 25 years

Software inspections, which were originally developed by Michael Fagan in 1976, are an important means to verify and achieve sufficient quality in many software projects today. Since Fagan’s initial work, the importance of software inspections has been long recognized by software developers and many organizations. Various proposals have been made by researchers in the hope of improving Fagan’s ...

Handbook on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering #. A Survey of Software Inspection Technologies

Software inspection is a proven method that enables the detection and removal of defects in software artifacts as soon as these artifacts are created. It usually involves activities in which a team of qualified personnel determines whether the created artifact is of sufficient quality. Detected quality deficiencies are subsequently corrected. In this way an inspection can not only contribute to...

The two-step Fagan's nomogram: ad hoc interpretation of a diagnostic test result without calculation.

In 1975, Fagan published a nomogram to help practitioners determine, without the use of a calculator or computer, the probability of a patient truly having a condition of interest given a particular test result. Nomograms are very useful for bedside interpretations of test results, as no test is perfect. However, the practicality of Fagan's nomogram is limited by its use of the likelihood ratio...

Partial inspection problem with double sampling designs in multi-stage systems considering cost uncertainty

The nature of input materials is changed as long as the product reaches the consumer in many types of manufacturing processes. In designing and improving multi-stage systems, the study of the steps separately may not lead to the greatest possible improvement in the whole system, therefore the study of inputs and outputs of each stage can be effective in improving the output quality characterist...

Evaluating and Investigating Game Accessibility for Deaf Players with the Semiotic Inspection Method

Semiotic Engineering is a Human Computer Interaction theory which perceives software as a communication between its designers and its users. We present here how an inspection method from that theory – the Semiotic Inspection Method has been used in the context of action games to evaluate their accessibility. In particular, we present a case study in which we investigated how sound and music wer...
